trustworthy tradesmenAre There Any Trustworthy Tradesmen?

Well of course there are – but do you know who the trustworthy tradesmen are?

If you don’t, you could end up dealing with a “rogue tradesman” and you could end up with huge bills and nothing to show for it.

Let’s face it, we’ve all heard horror stories about builders, plumbers, electricians and carpenters – you name it, just about any trade has managed to spawn rogues or “cowboys” who give the decent hardworking fair tradesmen a bad name.

Trustworthy Tradesmen – Always Get A Recommendation!

The age-old advice of only hiring someone who’s been recommended is still the best advice, but what if you don’t know anyone who can recommend the particular trade you are looking for? For instance if you’ve just moved to an area and need work carrying out on your house – how will you find trustworthy tradesmen then?

What if you just want to hire someone who deals fairly with their customers, who charges a fair price and does the work to an approved standard? How do you know the person advertising in the local paper or in Yellow Pages ticks all those boxes. The simple answer was – “You don’t”. Yellow pages (to the best of my knowledge) just include any business that asks to be included and small ads are notorious for being used by a multitude of rogues out there.

Trustworthy Tradesmen – My Own Story

A year or two ago I needed a builder to quote on an extension to my house. I thought I would be well able to find a reliable builder through my quite wide circle of friends and acquaintances from my footballing and football refereeing days. But when I asked around I got recommendations like “Oh you could try so and so, good quality work but he never turns up when he says he will”, or “Nice chap, very reasonable but fits you in when he hasn’t anything else on”. It seemed like the building trade was doing everything in its power to avoid giving a reliable service.

Eventually someone my wife knew through her job was singing the praises of the builder who had just finished working on her house. He had turned up when he said he would to quote. He had provided a competitive quote, when he said he would and in detail and in writing. He had agreed a price for the job along with a start date and believe it or not, had started work on the agreed start date. Better still, he had estimated how long the work would take, even allowing for less than perfect weather and had met that date too!

YES I thought, he’s the man for us.

So, when he gave us the same service I began to wonder….. how come we had struggled to find this excellent builder? And the answer was very apparent, the good builders aren’t necessarily that good at promoting themselves. They don’t widely publish their customer testimonials, or effectively “market” themselves. No, the fact of the matter is that good builders and I mean the real craftsmen out there who enjoy what they do, are often too busy, doing what they do – building, to do all that airy fairy promotion stuff. I’m a builder – I build things!

And so trustworthytradesmen.com was born.
